What do you Appreciate about your Life?
How have you been Blessed?
MY BIG Idea is to launch the International Latina Day of Gratitude on October 15, 2013 as an official clausura to Latino Heritage Month as an annual event. I want to bring Latinas everywhere together to raise our collective voices of GRACIAS y BENDICIONES and to help us connect as a talented group of women who are changing the world, one gratitude, one thank you, one appreciation at a time.
It is often said, “Gratitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.” I truly believe that gratitude is the key in changing our personal and professional lives, changing our relationship with Mother Earth, and claiming our legacy, whatever we choose it to be. I want to harness the power of Latinas to raise our collective consciousness in one voice for all we have to be thankful for, on one day, to remind of where we have been and where we are going.
My BIG idea is to help our community by starting with position of gratitude for all we have been blessed with, so we can move forward and become a force to be contended with. I want Latinas everyone to understand the power of GRATITUDE to transform lives, change relationships, and make a difference in what they are doing.
My Gratitude campaign is nested in the firm belief that the changes predicted by the Mayans for a more feminine world order with the rising of the 5th sun will be spearheaded and led by Latinas who are making a difference, starting their own difference, and leaving their mark in the world by marching to the beat of a different drummer.
We come from STRONG ancestral roots that allow us to soar among the eagle, especially when we recognize and appreciate all we have been gifted. I do believe that we can and should be grateful all the time, every day and that having one day, to come together in gratitude is a nice reminder of that.
For the first International Latina Day of Gratitude, I will be hosting a number of events and having many opportunities for Latinas to participate. Those interested in participating can join my FB group, Latina Gratitude, where they will find resources, quotes, and research on how and why gratitude works. On my website, zulmaramaria.com, Latinas can find a Gratitude Journal filled with quotes from AWESOME Latin@s who are entrepreneurial, forward thinkers who make gratitude work for them everyday. On October 15, 2013 I will be hosting a twitter chat #latinagratitude and a google hangout to discuss the importance of gratitude in our lives. And, last by not least, my beautifully illustrated, “My Life is My Message Poetry Book” will be available as a free download that day.
Mi sueno is that we, we as Latinas, raise our voices in collective gratitude and show the world, just how powerful we are and how positive energy, can make a BIG Difference!!!
So tell me, what are you grateful for, what do you appreciate about your life, how have you been blessed?
Con un pan y cafecito,
A few months ago, Daniel Gutierrez posted that a friend of his was giving away a hundred decks of Gratitude and Soulshine cards for the simple cost of shipping and handling. I signed up and got one of the give-aways. The cards were created by Dana Tremblay and they are amazing. I have been keeping a gratitude journal for years and I give thanks regularly for all of the blessings in my life and I meditate in gratitude as well, so I was interested in the cards, but not sure what I would get out of them.
However, when I got the cards, I realized they were AMAZING and I love them. The gratitude saying invite you to think and reflect on what you appreciate, what you are grateful for, and what you are thankful for, and how you will show gratitude throughout the day, for yourself, and for others. The deck also comes with a few blank cards so you can create your own.
The sayings are perfect to put you in a place of peace and serenity, they help you to reflect, and achieve inner peace. I use them just before journaling to get centered, I use them to help inspire me for blogging, and I use them for meditating and quieting my mind.
Dana’s website is wonderful and shows examples of the cards…they are truly worth having if you are interested in brings inner peace and serenity into your life. They are a perfect match for my Free Gratitude Journal, when you don’t know what to say, just pull a card and give thanks.
Los pequeños cambios que puedes hacer hoy, provocaran enormes cambios en el mañana.
The small changes that you can make today, will yield enormous changes in the morning.
*Updated Repost from last year
“For me and my family personally, September 11 was a reminder that life is fleeting, impermanent, and uncertain. Therefore, we must make use of every moment and nurture it with affection, tenderness, beauty, creativity, and laughter.” –Deepak Chopra, M.D.
September 11, 2001. I will never forget watching the planes fly into the towers. I had put on the TV to watch the news, sat down by 6:00 to watch the morning news and saw the planes hit. It was an incredible feeling that day of life being out of sorts, of something was not right with the world, that our humanity had been shaken to the core.
And, I will admit, I was glued to the TV for the next two or three days, wanting to find out what we knew, what had happened, what our response would be. And what I remember most, is a feeling that life would never be the same again. Things had decidedly shifted. There would always be the time before the 9/11 and the time after 9/11.
And to get through the conflicting feelings, I went to my base, and I gave thanks for all that I had, all I had not lost, and all the love and opportunity surrounding me, in spite of the crisis. I stayed focused on the positives in my life and I dwelled in family love and unity.
Barbara Kingsolver sums it up beautifully,
“When I look out the window, I exhale a prayer of thanks for the color green, for my children’s safety, for the simple acts of faith like planting a garden that helped see us through another spring, another summer. And I inhale some kind of promise to protect my kids’ hopes and good intentions we began with in this country. Freedom of speech, the protection of diversity — these are the most important ingredients of American civil life and my own survival. If I ever took them for granted, I don’t know.” -Barbara Kingsolver, novelist
What did you do on that fateful day?
How did you handle the outpouring of emotions?
Gracias mis amigos!!!
I’d like to give a GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT to these AWESOME Latin@s who are STEPPING OUT AND RISING UP …they are all SoCal friends, colleagues, compadres, y commadres featured in my Free Gratitude Journal. A lot has been written about gratitude journals and having an attitude of gratitude, almost too much for me to have anything new to say, except that it works and it works better than anyone who has not tried it can imagine. Once you try it you will see how it will transform your life. And it only takes a few weeks to undergo this transformation.
This gratitude journal is filled with inspiring quotes from some of the most notable Latin@s that have crossed my path in so many different ways. I give thanks for each and every one of them for having graced my journey with their presence. They all currently reside in the Southern California area and are an integral part of my journey. You will find them to be wonderfully inspiring Rising Up Latin@s who are making a difference in the Latin@ community.
Gratitude is the cornerstone and foundation of a complete life changing transformation. I am not talking about small transformations; I am talking about completely changing how you view your life and your circumstances. You just give thanks…give thanks for all of the little things in your life and all the big things in your life. You can give thanks for opportunities, physical health, relationships, mental well being, material goods, and anything else that comes to you. It is just finding that place in your life that needs some positive energy and go for it.
For example, if you want to lose weight, give thanks daily for you the way your body moves, the health you do have, the things you like about your body, the foods you love to eat, the success you are having (real or imagined), and the physical health you will experience once you have lost the excess weight that you want to lose.
And do it for a few weeks and watch how you can transform your life just with giving thanks. I suggest you choose one area in your life that needs some positive energy and go with the flow. It can be your job, your body, your relationship, your spiritual health, your schooling or your opportunities. Just choose one and start jotting down what you are grateful for and choose at least 5 things to write every day. They do not have to be unique, they do not have to be different, they do not have to be the same. There are no rules para dar la gracias, except for the rules that you set for yourself. Choose a theme and go for it. You can jot the list down on your Smart Phone Notes page, you can download an app for notes and use that for writing your gratitudes or you can use the following pages. It will transform your life and how you feel about yourself, your life, and whatever circumstance you are trying to change.
You may not lose that extra 30 pounds in 30 days, (that would not be healthy), but you will lose the angst that you have around food.
The same is true of your job. You may not have the best job in the world in the next 30 days, but you will either garner a new appreciation for the job that you do have or you will see a way or a path to a new vocation.
It is all about changing what you feel to feel what you want and it works. Try it and join me on this attitude of gratitude journey. I know you will be pleasantly surprised by all that you learn and all that feel as you continue moving toward the life that you want, the life of your dreams.
So pick up a pen, pencil, smart phone, ipad, or turn on your computer and give thanks for all the good in your life. And once you start, you may never stop.
Our lives are made up of so many beautiful moments, so many wonderful joys, and so many awesome experiences, that at times we behooves us to reflect on those moments, joys, and experiences. When I was pulling together my Gratitude Journal, I dedicated it to my three wonderful children, who all bring me much pleasure and delight. Here is my dedication to these three AWESOME adults…disfrutan.
This gratitude journal es dedicado mis tres hijos, who are not kids anymore, but grace my days and give me a reason to start each day with gratitude, for I have been blessed.
Thank you, Jesse, my first born son who taught me that life turns out just as it should, even if I don’t control it all of the time.
Thank you, Nikki, my middle child and only daughter, who showed me the joys of having a mini-me.
Thank you, Tony, my baby and second born son who taught me to live in the moment and enjoy each day for what it has to offer.
